It all started with an idea in the beginning of 2020 about bringing together creative people and blending different art-styles into each other.
Artworks have always been important to music. So bringing visual artists and musicians together is nothing new but in times of endless access to music, pictures and media it seems more important than ever to work closely together on projects to emphasize every aspect of creativity.
The idea for the project came from Besser-Samstags manager & musician Paddy Besser, who originally wanted to create covers for befriended musicians from photographs he took on his travels. After talking with some of his fellow musicians about it, the idea of a compilation where every track is especially highlighted was born. When visual artist Mr. Kilroy joined the party, the whole project was reworked and pushed into a new direction. It became an actual art-project where the photographs and travel stories influenced the drawings and the music, as well as the other way around: the process of music production influenced the drawing style of Kilroy.
Big part of Kilroy’s art is creating collages combining different techniques. For Sketches of Rome he did something different and yet stayed true to his style.
He hasn’t cut out anything from posters, books or something else as he would normally do it. Instead he drew every single artwork by hand in a style that could remind you of a collage and at first sight looks like a unique and unreal combination of motives which will cast a spell on you with lots of details and anecdotes to Rome’s history and actual urban culture.
To bring the artworks to life and to honor the modern consumption of art, the drawings were animated in hundreds of hours for short videos that feel magical and give a vivid impression of the ancient Italian city when you watch them.
The musicians were picked by Paddy with the desire to have only exceptional personalities, musicians and at the same time friends on this very first Besser-Samstag release on vinyl. Every musician was immediately excited about the idea, assured their support and delivered great music to make this project perfect.
We’re so endlessy proud of having all these talented people around us and managing to put together this massive project with a vinyl, art-booklet, art-prints and animations. Thanks to all people that worked with us on this project and made this dream come true.
More informations about the musicians coming soon.
